PACE Talks: An interview with Max Eaglen, Director at Platform Group

Our PACE event series gives us the opportunity to hear from those at the forefront of digital, and for them to share their insights and experience with a highly engaged audience of their peers. The series takes a look at the intersection of marketing, technology and media, with past events covering topics such as the future of content, data, privacy, marketing automation and AI, with speakers joining us from Amazon, Oracle, Sage, Zone (Congnizant), Dell, Culture Trip, and more. They’re an opportunity to hear thought provoking ideas and always inspire a lively discussion.

The next instalment of PACE, 2020 Vision, on Thursday 14th November at Ace, Shoreditch, is set to be no different. We’ll be taking a look at the emerging trends and technologies set to disrupt our industry in the coming year ahead and beyond. With this in mind, we’ve taken the opportunity to get to know the awesome speakers we have joining us on the day, and gain a bit of insight into how they see the future of digital shaping up.

Next up in the hot seat we have Max Eaglen, Director at Platform Group, one of the UK’s leading experience agencies, working with Vodafone, Kingfisher, Bentley and more amazing brands on innovative customer experiences… and with a new digital product in the pipeline, we’re really looking forward to hearing his thoughts at Thursday’s PACE.

1. What emerging trend or technology are you most excited about heading into 2020?

I don’t have one, rather, a few that I am excited about parts of – AI, Quantum Computing Renewable Energy Technologies, VR /AR, Robotics. Looking further than the next year or so we could be close to solving some of the world’s greatest problems from how we feed ourselves to wiping out some of the big Cs. We could be in for a wild ride in edutainment and, hopefully, see the exponential rise of zero emission vehicles.

2. What’s your thoughts on brand purpose?

The digital transformation age is reliant on Brands being honest, truthful and transparent, doing things that ultimately are for the good of us and the planet. Social channels have become the peoples soap box, right or wrong it gives them the freedom to speak their mind without check. When you see things like deep fake you begin to ask yourself ‘ who can I trust?’ when you realise your viewing history has affected the ads you are seeing you ask yourself am ‘I being watched ?’ bit by bit our trust is eroded. But when you see brands behaving in ways that make you feel good about them that trust begins to re-emerge.

3. What does your ideal client look like?

Visionary, inspiring, people centric, creative, honest, brave, unafraid to try something new, speaks their mind and …loaded ?

4. Are we more or less connected than 50 years ago? And thoughts?

Objectively more connected, subjectively more distant. No one has 1000 active friends, they are just connections. Also ‘better connected’ isn’t the question we should be asking – ‘do we have better and more quality time with our friends now we have social media?’.

5. What does the future of work look like to you?

I wrote a paper on it!

6. If you could introduce one law tomorrow – what would it be?

Take less selfies.

7. Delete Facebook – yes/no?

No just bring in anti-trolling AI.

8. Favourite meme of 2019?
9. In one word, how would you sum up the value that Platform offer?

Wonderful

10.Favourite SciFi movie?

The Matrix

A huge thank you, Max, for sharing your thoughts with us. We look forward to hearing more from him at PACE 2020 Vision on 14th November.
