On 3rd September 2015 as part of the Brighton Digital Festival Open Studios we opened our doors to provide local businesses and web design and development enthusiasts with a free WordPress clinic.
We ran four 30 minute group sessions during the afternoon and got to meet with marketers, web developers and small business owners, each with their own array of WordPress related questions.
Munching on Pragmatic themed confectionery and sipping out of our finest WordPress mugs, each of our guests had a 121 chat with WordPress expert and Pragmatic Founder & Director, David Lockie.
Talking through our visitors’ WordPress wishes, worries, and woes, David gave our guests actionable recommendations on how they could get the most out of their WordPress websites. They discussed finding the right theme for your website, WordPress hosting, cyber security, and the importance of a mobile-friendly website amongst more tailored suggestions to our guests’ websites.
Not all of our guests had WordPress websites, as some of them were still thinking about making the move to the WordPress platform and had questions regarding whether it was right for them. For these guests, David talked about how easy the CMS is to use and why moving their website to WordPress could modernise not only how their business came across online, but how it functions too. More about that here.
With our experienced WordPress developer guests, we discussed working with WordPress professionally and chatted about what it was like running a specialised WordPress agency. It was interesting to hear that many local freelance developers specialise in WordPress themselves and their reasons behind why they preferred it over other web publishing platforms. Most of those reasons we had in common, you can view our reasons here.
We’ve had a lot of fun at this year’s Brighton Digital Festival so far, and there is a lot more to come! Our team will be attending the Brighton Digital Festival Wrap Party on the 25th September. Don’t forget to say hi if you’re heading down yourself!
