Synotio ProBackup: Atomic bomb-proof backup storage

Synotio has always been about uptime, scalability and reliability. However, with uptime, it is not enough to just have redundancy (i.e. duplication of all components), but also disaster recovery plans and regular testing of these plans. In addition, the new security situation in Europe calls for better and safer backup and data centre operation sites. You can read more about our thoughts on the war in Ukraine and its impact on our site selection here.

Our solution

With our new product, now launched as Synotio ProBackup, you get all of this for just SEK 1500 per month per site:

  1. 180 days of restore points. This is 4 times the amount of storage included in our standard solution! With half a year of backups, even errors that go undetected for months can be restored. Still not enough? We have no problem expanding the amount of restore points – at very attractive price levels.
  2. Testing of each recovery point. We have an entire rack in Malmö dedicated to disaster recovery and testing backups. After each backup job, we immediately run an automatic restore to Malmö on networks that are isolated from our production sites. Once the restored servers are up and running, automated scripts are run to verify that your site is functioning properly. Any anomalies are reported to our Network Operations Centre (NOC).
  3. Storage of the tested backups at two main sites and one backup site: Malmö, Uddevalla and Norrköping.

If you have a PIM or ERP that can send backups off-site, we can create customised solutions where that system sends backups to us for storage along with your site. Why would you want that? Continue reading!

Resistance to nuclear weapons and more!

Our Uddevalla site is a 900m2 two-storey shelter blown up shortly after the Second World War. Its purpose until the fall of the Soviet Union was to protect the civil defence leadership in the Uddevalla region from attacks with tactical nuclear, chemical and conventional weapons. The site provides full hit protection against artillery projectiles and aerial bombs, as well as shock wave and radiation from nuclear weapons. This provides excellent shell protection for a data centre and is almost impossible to get with cloud providers out there.

Sound too good to be true? Come on a tour!

While we can’t offer protection against nuclear weapons in our contracts, we invite you to visit us and make your own judgement (we haven’t tested – a hosting company armed with nuclear weapons would be a bit scary, after all). However, leave the camera at home as pictures without explicit authorisation are strictly forbidden.

We can’t reveal the exact location in this article because of its sensitivity – and technically it is so secret that it has no address. What we can show you here is part of the entrance when you are halfway in:

A comprehensive solution

With Synotio ProBackup, you can use our full suite of data centres to give your site maximum resilience against outages, natural disasters and even war. We have even set up the storage system in Norrköping in a mirrored shelf configuration where we can pull out a whole shelf of disks if we need to quickly transport a copy of all the backups stored on the system to another location, with no consequences for the operation of the system.
