Kultur Samhälle Mediegestaltning (KSM) is an interdisciplinary and cross-media unit at Linköping University that works extensively with film and sound production. As part of the programmes, they use a project and file management tool that they have chosen to call“Kulturverkstaden“. The system is used by students as well as teachers for documentation, project management, file archiving and publishing.
Since 2008, the undersigned has been responsible for the development and operation of this system, then through his own company called Samworks Development & Consulting. However, design and layout were not part of that assignment and when the university decided in 2010 to renew the look of the system, a small individual company called Angry Creative was chosen. The rest, as they say, is history.
What we are trying to say with the telling of this story is that the Culture Workshop will always have a special meaning for us. Who knows what would have become of us today if it hadn’t been for this first joint venture between the two entrepreneurs?
And it is with this background that it feels particularly good for us to be able to present an even newer and more modern web interface in Kulturverkstaden today. This time, however, it wasn’t just to make the system more aesthetically pleasing, mostly because we saw a need for a framework for designing and processing the large amount of views and recurring graphical elements. The framework we like best is called Bootstrap.
No less than 53 unique views had to be completely or partially reworked. It was no small job but in our judgement well worth it in the end. Feel free to check out our little film clip where we showcase parts of the result:
