Getting your sitemap nailed down will help you think through your site’s content, structure, functionality and design.
Mind map
Get out your pen and paper and mind map your new website. What are all the things you want to include on the new website? How does it all fit together, roughly?
You might come up with something like this.
Create a list
Once you’ve done your mind-mapping, it’s time to get some order to the proceedings. People are used to websites having a hierarchical structure, so the easiest way to check that your new sitemap will be useful to your visitors is to write it as a bulleted list. Something like this:

- History of the site
- The team
- Terms of use
- Privacy policy
- Blog
- Products and services
- Castor rollers
- Vacuum cleaners
- Upright
- Compact
- Handheld
- Refrigerators
- Shopping Basket & Checkout
- Services & Services
- Repair of refrigerators
- Maintenance of vacuum cleaners
- Contact us
- How to find us
If you can’t get it as neat as this, just do your best and we can help you complete it.
