Pimcore is a tool that provides a single platform for collecting data, regardless of channel or process. It is a well-known Open Source platform for managing digital data. The software includes PIM, MDM, CDP, DAM, DXP/CMS and Digital Commerce. Pimcore is a very broad platform with many uses and many different modules. However, it is perfectly possible to use individual modules to suit your needs. Angry Creative has experience in integrating PIM and MDM as well as the DAM parts with WordPress and WooCommerce.
Pimcore is API-driven and therefore enables integration with other IT infrastructure. However, Pimcore is not an “out-of-the-box” solution as other open source tools often are. You will need a developer to get started.
Pimcore helps you connect and manage all digital data and its core is built on three data types: data objects, digital assets and documents. Due to the easy integration with any channel, Pimcore saves a lot of time for the end user, not only by collecting and managing everything from one place but also serving different images to different markets.
Data objects
Data objects allow you to manage all structured data based on a predefined data model, either manually or automatically via the APIs. Data objects provide the ability to manage structured data for multiple output channels from a single source. Pimcore can handle all data products & categories (PIM/MDM), but also customers (CDP), orders (digital commerce), blog articles (DXP/CMS).
Digital assets
Store, manage and organise digital files such as images, videos, PDFs, Word/Excel documents in a folder structure. 200 file types can be previewed directly in Pimcore, edit images and enrich files with additional metadata. Facial recognition for contact points in images and support for VR/360° previews is available. You only need to keep a high-resolution version of a file in the system. Pimcore can automatically generate all the necessary data formats for different channels like e-commerce, apps, websites.
As open source, Pimcore is highly extensible and provides lots of functionality on top of its core modules. It can be used for pretty much anything! The system stores data centrally and can handle data to any channel – simple websites, both integrated and third-party commerce systems, mobile apps, print and so on.
How do we integrate PIMCore?
As one of the most widely used systems for PIM, Angry Creative has put together a package to get you started with Pimcore and WordPress/WooCommerce in a fast, smooth and cost-effective way. This is usually an integration package that fits best into our Qala solutions.
PIM and MDM
The term “product information” includes all data that describes a product/item. It can be anything from descriptive texts, images, technical data to high-resolution images and videos to present the product in an appealing way.
In many organisations, there is a need to use such product information in multiple IT systems, for example on multiple WooCommerce sites. In these situations, a lot of time can be saved by gathering all product information in a single system (these systems are called Product Information Management “PIM”). The PIM can then be connected to the systems that need the PIM’s data. With master data management(MDM), data management can also be centralised for validation, version management, structure, sorting and much more.
How to get started
Step 1 – Prerequisites for PIM
We do workshops together where we identify and document your product structure (relationships between products, common data for multiple products, etc), language needs, market structures, image needs and so on. We also identify your integration needs, i.e. which IT systems need access to the PIM’s data. The result is documented in a report for the next step.
Step 2 – Pimcore behaviour and basic PIM configuration
In this step, we install Pimcore and configure it according to the product structure determined in the previous step. Once everything is in place, we deliver basic training to show you how to fill in and manage your product information to get a complete and working PIM system.
Step 3 – Integration with WordPress/WooCommerce
In the last step, we map the PIM data to the product structure in WooCommerce and implement integrations that synchronise the PIM data to your Woocommerce sites as soon as they are updated in Pimcore. In this step, we also introduce monitoring of these integrations so that we can act if there are conflicts or errors.
Once the three steps of the project have been completed, Pimcore is configured to manage all your product data in one place and updates are synchronised to your WooCommerce sites fully automatically. Fast, smooth and very simple.
